“It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?!”
Tom Hanks can.
In an upcoming film by Sony Pictures titled, “You Are My Friend”, Hanks will play Mr. Rogers in a film detailing the connection between the beloved Rogers and a reporter (Tom Junod), and the lasting effect Rogers had on his life afterwards. We’re hoping the creators don’t leave out precious things like taking ride on the trolley to the Neighborhood of Make Believe, or feeding the pet fish! We’re looking forward to gaining insight on Mr. Rogers beyond the cardigan and warm voice, we just hope all the magic of the classic show and the man himself will shine through as well.
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood is a television show geared towards young children, which through various topics and themes educated generations of youth about love, responsibility, divorce, war, feelings, self-esteem, and even death. His ability to handle these topics and present them to children in the most gentle way possible is one of the reasons why he is so beloved. Rogers passed away at age 74 in 2003 after a bout with stomach cancer.
